5True Wisdom - Thus says the LORD: Cursed is the man who trusts in human beings, who makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the LORD. 6He is like a barren bush in the wasteland that enjoys no change of season, But stands in lava beds in the wilderness, a land, salty and uninhabited. 7Blessed are those who trust in the LORD; the LORD will be their trust. 8They are like a tree planted beside the waters that stretches out its roots to the stream: It does not fear heat when it comes, its leaves stay green; In the year of drought it shows no distress, but still produces fruit.

1First Book—Psalms 1–41 Psalm 1 True Happiness in God’s Law I - Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in company with scoffers. 2Rather, the law of the LORD is his joy; and on his law he meditates day and night. 3He is like a tree planted near streams of water, that yields its fruit in season; Its leaves never wither; whatever he does prospers. 4II - But not so are the wicked, not so! They are like chaff driven by the wind. 6Because the LORD knows the way of the just, but the way of the wicked leads to ruin.

23Rejoice and leap for joy on that day! Behold, your reward will be great in heaven. For their ancestors treated the prophets in the same way.

17And he came down with them and stood on a stretch of level ground. A great crowd of his disciples and a large number of the people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the coastal region of Tyre and Sidon 20And raising his eyes toward his disciples he said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for the kingdom of God is yours. 21Blessed are you who are now hungry, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who are now weeping, for you will laugh. 22Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude and insult you, and denounce your name as evil on account of the Son of Man. 23Rejoice and leap for joy on that day! For their ancestors treated the prophets in the same way. 24But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation. 25But woe to you who are filled now, for you will be hungry.
