Responsorial Psalm
Psalms 51: 3-4, 5-6ab, 11 and 16
3I - Have mercy on me, God, in accord with your merciful love; in your abundant compassion blot out my transgressions.
4Thoroughly wash away my guilt; and from my sin cleanse me.
5For I know my transgressions; my sin is always before me.
6Against you, you alone have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your eyes So that you are just in your word, and without reproach in your judgment.
11II - Turn away your face from my sins; blot out all my iniquities.
16Rescue me from violent bloodshed, God, my saving God, and my tongue will sing joyfully of your justice.
Alleluia
John 13: 34
34I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.
Gospel
Matthew 5: 43-48
43“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’
44But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you,
45that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.
46For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not the tax collectors do the same?
47And if you greet your brothers only, what is unusual about that? Do not the pagans do the same?
48So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.
