Responsorial Psalm
Psalms 146: 2, 5-6ab, 6c-7, 8-9a
2Praise the LORD, my soul; I will praise the LORD all my life, sing praise to my God while I live.
5II - Blessed the one whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD, his God,
6The maker of heaven and earth, the seas and all that is in them, Who keeps faith forever,
7secures justice for the oppressed, who gives bread to the hungry. The LORD sets prisoners free;
8the LORD gives sight to the blind. The LORD raises up those who are bowed down; the LORD loves the righteous.
9The LORD protects the resident alien, comes to the aid of the orphan and the widow, but thwarts the way of the wicked.
Alleluia
John 13: 34
34I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.
Gospel
Matthew 5: 43-48
43“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’
44But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you,
45that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.
46For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not the tax collectors do the same?
47And if you greet your brothers only, what is unusual about that? Do not the pagans do the same?
48So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.
