1Then the word of the LORD of hosts came: 2Thus says the LORD of hosts: I am intensely jealous for Zion, stirred to jealous wrath for her. 3Thus says the LORD: I have returned to Zion, and I will dwell within Jerusalem; Jerusalem will be called the faithful city, and the mountain of the LORD of hosts, the holy mountain. 4Thus says the LORD of hosts: Old men and old women will again sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each with staff in hand because of old age. 5The city will be filled with boys and girls playing in its streets. 6Thus says the LORD of hosts: Even if this should seem impossible in the eyes of the remnant of this people in those days, should it seem impossible in my eyes also?—oracle of the LORD of hosts. 7Thus says the LORD of hosts: I am going to rescue my people from the land of the rising sun, and from the land of the setting sun. 8I will bring them back to dwell within Jerusalem. They will be my people, and I will be their God, in faithfulness and justice.

16The nations shall fear your name, LORD, all the kings of the earth, your glory, 17Once the LORD has rebuilt Zion and appeared in glory, 18Heeding the plea of the lowly, not scorning their prayer. 19Let this be written for the next generation, for a people not yet born, that they may praise the LORD: 20“The LORD looked down from the holy heights, viewed the earth from heaven, 21To attend to the groaning of the prisoners, to release those doomed to die.” 29May the children of your servants live on; may their descendants live in your presence. 22Then the LORD’s name will be declared on Zion, his praise in Jerusalem, 23When peoples and kingdoms gather to serve the LORD.
